Welcome to Starsfade
Starsfade is a barber shop in the centre of Newcastle, built on a simple idea: the cut is the whole job. Not an upsell, not a rushed twelve minutes between appointments, not a machine running a guard over your head while somebody watches the clock. Every chair here is given the time the haircut actually needs, whether that is a fifteen-minute buzz or a seventy-five-minute full service.
We are barbers first. That means clippers, shears and a straight razor used properly, a neckline that is squared by eye rather than guessed, and a fade that is blended rather than stepped. It means we will tell you honestly if the cut you have asked for will not sit right on your hair, and we will show you the one that will.
Newcastle has plenty of places to get your hair cut. What it has fewer of is a shop that publishes its prices openly, opens when people actually finish work, and treats a twelve-year-old's first proper fade with the same care as a groom's wedding-morning shave. That is the gap Starsfade was built to fill.
What We Do

Skin fades, zero fades, scissor work and classic tapers, blended clean and cut to sit the way your hair actually grows.

Shaped, lined and finished with a hot towel. From a quick tidy through to a full sculpt with a straight razor.

The traditional cut-throat shave: hot towels, warm lather, a single-blade razor and a cold finish. Thirty minutes off your week.

Twelve and under, high school students with ID, and seniors with a card — all priced properly, all given the same time.
Why Starsfade
Most Newcastle barbers make you ring up or open a booking app to find out what a haircut costs. Our entire menu is on this website, GST included, with the time each service takes. No surprises at the counter.
No weekend loading, no public holiday surcharge, and no card surcharge. A Sunday skin fade costs exactly what a Tuesday skin fade costs.
Thursday to 7pm, and open every Sunday from 9am to 4:30pm. Most weekdays we trade 9 to 6, so you can get in after work or on the weekend without hunting for a shop that is actually open.
Bookings hold your chair and are the safest bet on a Thursday night or a Saturday morning. But the door is open, and if there is a chair free it is yours.
Every sixth cut is free. A stamp card, not an app, not an email list, not a subscription. And a maintenance tidy inside four weeks of your last cut is $30 instead of $45.
Every service on our menu has a real duration attached to it, and that is the time you get. We would rather run one fewer cut a day than hand you a rushed one.
What Newcastle Says
“Best skin fade I have had in the Hunter. Took the time to check how my hair grows and the blend is still clean two weeks later. Easy booking and the shop feels proper — not rushed.”
“Brought my son in for his first proper cut. Patient, calm, and they did not rush him at all. Father & Son booking was perfect. Will be coming back from Rutherford every time.”
“Hot towel shave was excellent — closer than anything I get at home. Open Sunday which actually suits shift work. Honest prices on the website too, which is rare.”
